Chequered Sheets

Chequered sheets are a type of metal sheet with a raised diamond pattern on one face and with inverse or plain surface on the other. They are also called Diamond sheet, Checker sheet, Tread sheet or Durbar Floor sheet.

Chequered sheets are manufactured using 2 primary methods – Hot rolling and punching. For hot rolling, the hot sheets are directly rolled into this plates with the diamond pattern using appropriate dies. As for punching, cold sheets are embossed using a punch for attaining the diamond pattern on the surface of the sheets. Generally, hot rolled sheets have higher strength due to the added material present within the raised diamond pattern. Punching or embossed sheets are punched out from side to another to attain the diamond pattern, thus displaying lesser strength compared to the hot rolled sheets. Most often, hot rolled chequered sheets are preferred over the embossed sheets.

The diamond pattern on the sheets provide anti-slip properties, thus making them widely sought after for the production of stairs, walkways, floorings, ramps, etc. They can be produced using different kinds of metals, based on their application. Floorings and walkways usually utilize steel chequered sheets as they have excellent strength and grip. For decoration purposes, aluminum chequered sheets are primarily used, owing to their shiny appearance.
